Permit Submission, Review and Inspections in Tyler

The City of Tyler says all permits and plans must be submitted electronically, and its eTRAKiT page lists building, pool, roof, electrical and plumbing among the permit types. Its FAQ says that once all documents are submitted correctly, prescreening takes up to two business days. None of this says whether a pole barn needs a permit.

What pole barn work in Tyler actually involves

The City of Tyler's eTRAKiT and ProjectDox page (read October 7, 2026) says that, once logged in, you apply for your permit, that Permit Techs will process it, and that you log in to see its status. It says staff will create your profile and send your username and instructions on how to set up a password.

Review time and validity

The FAQ says that if staff requests corrections, the review time will restart, and that building permits are valid for six months from the issue date, with staff able to extend a permit while you are actively working and scheduling inspections.

Inspections

The FAQ says an inspection called in before 7 a.m. to the inspections line that meets all the requirements to proceed will most likely take place the same day, and that each trade must schedule its own inspections. The eTRAKiT page lists Permits and Building Inspections at (903) 531-1151. Those are the City's statements, not a promise by this site or a provider. The eTRAKiT page also describes a separate route for projects (zoning, variance, subdivision plat, infrastructure review and others). It does not say which route, if either, a pole barn takes.
